Don't we already have enough rich, white "Teds" in the Senate?
What???? You mean it wasn’t a super-duper awesomely fabulous idea to appoint a man to the U.S. Senate with zero political experience and without him ever having proven he could win a single vote? Who indeed ever would have predicted this?
It’s an early poll, so take it for what it’s worth, but both Governor Bill Ritter and Senator Michael Bennet face an uphill battle for (re)election. It couldn’t happen to more deserving white ruling-class d00dly d00dz! The Republican front runner for the Senate seat is former Lieutenant Governor Jane Norton, and the next Republican runner-up in the current polling is Ken Buck, the Weld County D.A. who put away for life the murderer of a trans woman in Greeley earlier this year, who said “We care deeply about human life in this community. . . If someone goes after someone here because of their sexual status, we will come after you with everything we have.” So, it’s not like a thinking girl doesn’t have options in 2010. Besides, if the Dems can’t get $hit done in the Senate with 60 votes (I guess the U.S. Constitutional principle for majority votes in the Senate no longer applies–somehow George W. Bush and his allies in the U.S. Senate moved legislation with 50 votes plus Dick Cheney), then they can get along just fine with 59 Dems, or 58, or 53, or whatever.
Like I said last year: if all Ritter wanted was an Ivy-League educated schmoozer, he could have appointed me. I’ve never gotten a job because of my daddy or mommy, unlike the unelected Senator Bennet, who as far as I can tell has gone from unearned job to unearned job thanks to Daddy and the Old School Ties. I’ve always been hired because I earned the relevant degrees and experience in my chosen field–a risky strategy these days, I know!

Whatever are those guys rolling on that high-visibility sun porch? Maybe it’s only my impression that it’s a Zig-Zag rolling machine in Dood Two’s hands, rather than a cell cam? The body language evidence is murky. Anyway, I hope there’s a medical Mary-Jane licence taped up somewhere in that condo. My old man got me a nice job in peach orchard for a few weeks to earn a little extra money before I headed off to graduate school. Pretty scratchy work, and by the time they were ready to pick the apples, I was already hunched nervously over

I got lots of summer jobs in high school and college because of family connections: I worked as a secretary, and then in a bookstore. It was very glam, of course (not). But I did get to work with one of the old fashioned telephone switchboards, which was fun. Once I finished college, I was on my own.
So are there any dems who might challenge Bennett? If you run, Historiann, I’ll come and ring doorbells for you.

I don’t feel any need to either apologize or justify whatever happened to me (no Ivy in my case). Hope my kids don’t either (they have Ivy because their dad forked out the zillions). What got to me was the ease with which said Bennett got the jobs; is it like President Bush or with somewhat a little more sweat, not too much though, Presdient Obama?

Susan–former Speaker of the CO Assembly Andrew Romanoff is running, but his campaign has been criticized of late because it’s very under-the-radar (to say the least), he isn’t doing well with fundraising, and he doesn’t seem to have positions that are terribly different from Bennets’.
But, were I challening Bennet for realz, I have to say that this year, there might be some really good reasons to keep one’s head down low while Bennet continues not impressing the voters all by his lonesome. In a year of anti-incumbency, it’s best not to remind the voters that one was until recently (1 year ago) a state office incumbent. And why attack a candidate who is already losing to both Republican front-runners? If he’s smart, he’s keeping his head low and waiting for his moment to charge. (Or, his campaign is in free fall–I suppose we’ll find out in the next 4 months or so which it is.)

I intend to support Andrew Romanoff in his primary bid against Bennet. He should have been appointed, was extremely popular 9on both sides), and a very effective State Legislator. Ritter listened to the wrong people when he appointed Bennett.
And Ritter has done some things that offend the Unions. he cannot be assured that he will get their support.
