Monroe had many faults, but actually did shit to keep this nation moving forward during difficult times. Paul is a juvenile lying sacke of shitte who doesn’t know how to do anything except lie to credulous right-wing rubes.
On the liberty side of things, Monroe, as U.S. minister to France in 1794, went to some lengths to get Thomas Paine sprung from the Luxembourg Prison there, took him in to live at the embassy for more than a year, and even loaned him “two hundred and fifty French Crowns,” which I understand to have been a pretty good chunk of change at that time, to tide him over. Not quite sure who would qualify for such favors from my good friend from across the aisle in Kain-tucky!
