Hilarious unsourced post at the National Review Online: no names, no actual evidence that any of this is true, but dark warnings about the tidal wave of unemployment that’s about to be unleashed across the country because the so-called “job creators” are pi$$ed off that their candidate didn’t win. Here’s allegedly one for you:
I explained to [my employees] a month ago that if Obama gets in office that the regulations for Obamacare are gonna hurt our business, and I’m gonna have to make provisions to make sure I have enough money to cover the payroll taxes, the additional health care I’m gonna have to do, and I explained that to them and I said you do what you feel like in your heart you need to do, but I’m just letting you know as a warning this is things I have to think of as a business owner.
Well unfortunately, and most of my employees are Hispanic — I’m not gonna go into what kind of company I have, but I have mostly Hispanic employees — well unfortunately we know what happened and I can’t wait around anymore, I have to be proactive. I had to lay off 22 people today to make sure that my business is gonna thrive and I’m gonna be around for years to come. I have to build up that nest egg now for the taxes and regulations that are coming my way.
Right. Because a President Romney would magically have been granted the power to issue a retroactive veto for a bill passed 3 years before his inauguration, and none of those “taxes and regulations” would be coming your way, ever, guaranteed.
Here’s something you probably don’t know about me, but I’ve been a “job creator” and an employer, and guess what? If I couldn’t employ someone legally, pay hir a living wage, pay all of hir unemployment and social security taxes, and cover hir health insurance, I wouldn’t have hired anyone in the first place. And let me just stipulate: Fratguy isn’t running for public office. I’m not “keeping my record clean” because I have ambitions for anything beyond my current position. If the person cited in the linked article actually exists and told the truth about his “family business,” then he probably had been breaking the law by underpaying his employees and his taxes all along.
If you can’t afford to do business legally, then you can’t afford to do business. Period. You’re not a “job creator.” You’re just an exploitative jerk.

Right! And if all of these “job creators” cannot run their businesses ethically, then perhaps they should move aside for all of these young, up-and-coming entrepreneurs who will, no doubt, figure out how to pay their employees a living wage.

It would also seem that the author had 22 more people than (s)he needed to do the work coming in (perhaps true if it’s a seasonal business, but then the election is irrelevant), or intends to turn down work (which would be detrimental to building the nest egg (s)he mentions), or . . . well, I’m not quite sure, since I’ve never been a “job creator,” but I still think that my general impression that one needs employees to do work to bring in revenue, and that cutting employees is likely to also decrease revenue, isn’t too far off. And if there’s a way to bring in just as much revenue (and/or more revenue per employee) with 22 fewer employees, shouldn’t (s)he. as a good capitalist, have implemented it whenever (s)he discovered it, rather than waiting ’til now?

Pressure and threats have worked well for the rich. Obama actually gave the them everything they want, but he couldn’t supply them with their dark wishes; they were not explicit about them. Romney is one of them. He doesn’t have to be told. They want him and not a guy who can take a hint.

What’s astonishing (other than the totally vacuous argument which Contingent Cassandra properly eviscerates), which no longer surprises me) is that this person somehow participated in the Romney bubble in which it was impossible for Obama to win, because, you know, Romney LOOKS presidential (i.e. white, male, greying…)

I don’t think the NRO poster invented the story. This was actually a call broadcast at a Las Vegas radio station. But because the caller was anonymous and didn’t name the business in question, I think there is good reason to be suspicious of this “just so” story.
IOW, the NRO poster was eager to find evidence that an Obama victory would = unemployment for his voters, and seized on this story without any verification or reporting. So, she is lazy but not necessarily dishonest.

Job creators are not even job creators. It is as if they haven’t read their Adam Smith:
“He generally, indeed neither intends to promotes the publick interest, nor knows how much he is promoting it. […] and by directing that industry in such a manner as its produce may be of the greatest value, he intends only his own gain, and he is in this, as in many other cases, led by an invisible hand to promote an end which was no part of his intention.”
Jobs are created when there are demands for goods and services. They do not depend on the whim or intention of an employer. Jobs are the unintended consequence of that employer seeking their own gain. If the employer does not understand this, they will be out of business very soon. I can see how the Masters of the Universe my embrace this perspective, since all the do is shove around 1’s and 0’s over a broadband connection, but I am flabbergasted that anyone with an actual business could believe the ‘job creator’ clap trap.
The fact that this person, real or fabricated, considers it necessary to fire people before any actual new expenses or taxes have actually materialized suggests that they understand very little about the larger economy or their own business. I suspect its make believe carping by another wannabe “Joe-the-Plumber”

Like Historiann and probably many others out there, I’m also a job creator, a strategic innovation distuptor, and a capitalist transformational creative-destructionator for good measure. I just can’t stand it when the widows and the orphans cry, so I’ve had to get creative while buckling down to withstand the economic storm from the socialist turn that the electorate seems to have taken this week. So I decided to become a “stragetic cancellator” and thereby be insulated from the emotional havoc wrought upon the hapless “hands” far down the supply chain. How? I went to my book-of-business, wired Boeing, and cancelled an order for three Dreamliners (sm) scheduled to be delivered in early 2014. That not only puts buckets of change in your pocket so you can pick up a check here and there, but I never need know who the “likes to fire people” guy is in Seattle where the termination notices will soon go out.
The only problem is, my book of business is now flat empty, with not a single Dreamliner ™ left to cancel if I wake up hungry again on Monday. So I got to thinking what else could I cancel? And it hit me: three sections of History 258, scheduled for delivery in a little more than two months! The dean isn’t going to like this lean-and-mean “I have kids to feed too” talk, of course, and might even say “No!!” But I fall back on a helpful magnate’s aphorism I learned first semester in graduate school from no less of a job creator than Andrew Carnegie. (No, he didn’t take three months off to teach a seminar at Wharton, this was from a BOOK!). But what he “said” was: “….boss your boss. Try it on early.” He actually said that, you could Wikipedia it. Once you do that you might even need to fire your boss, or get to like having to fire bosses.

That dude is building a nest egg for donations to Republican Super PACs in the next election. I am amazed by people who scream and scheme to lower their tax rates are so generous when it comes to sending money to Karl Rove and Co.
