C'mon, move to Canada!

Homostorian Americanist, who grew up in the Great White North, sent along a link to this video inviting distraught American “E.L.I.T.E.s” to migrate across the border in the event of a McCain victory next month.  Go ahead–click and laugh (until you cry!)  Of course, Canada will probably still have a Conservative national government after the elections Tuesday, but their Conservatives are left of most Blue Dog Democrats in this country, and even the Conservatives don’t advance serious plans to do away with socialized medicine!

  1. I think I’d make a run for the border in the other direction, if worse came to worst. (Been there, didn’t do that, on the North side, during the last political meltdown). It would be left-right-left, governmentally, until you stumbled into the Straits of Magellan, but at least they’re coming out of winter and into summer, and that sounds pretty good at this point. Hope y’all had a good one down in Saguaro-itaville!

  2. As I’m sure you know, we did get Stephen Harper and the Conservatives back almost just the way it was before the election. Why is it that I imagine my whole country is depressed today when so many of them voted for the guy? Cognitive dissonance or something. MY friends are a bit down, anyway. And let’s call it universal health care – none of that pinko Commie stuff or your Canadian readers might think we’ve done something radical and change their minds! Good to see you here again – it’s been awhile for me.

  3. Yes, hysperia–I was not surprised to hear the news, although his victory was hardly an endorsement of having Conservatives in charage. It’s still a minority government, after all.

Dion just looked very unexciting and unable to make a case for himself or the Liberals.

  4. Personally, I’m of the view that Dion was unexciting because he is intelligent and we don’t like that in a politician. Not that I’ve ever voted Liberal in my life, nor would I have done so this time. My bet is that Dion has 40 IQ points on Harper though. Another misfortune for Dion – his anglais doesn’t quite flow. We allow English-speaking politicians to speak heavily accented French, but the opposite simply does not compute. Many people say they think Dion is stupid. Since this is clearly not the case, one can only conclude that many people think that a person who speaks accented English is … a dunce. SIGH.

Note also that fewer people – 38% – voted in this election than ever before in history. Overall, it just wasn’t very entertaining.

There are some whispers now that Harper has hardly managed his party to impressive mandates and that his leadership may be at issue. Personally, I doubt it, but it’s important to dream, eh?
